This is a fabulous winter project for the little ones to do and see the rewards of their work when the birds and squirrels come to feast when times are lean, such as in the winter.

Because so many states don't have an abundant supply of pine cones that you can harvest on your own without purchasing them at a craft store , I am willing to provide you with as many pine cones as I can stuff into a box and mail for the shipping cost of $5.00. I live in Florida and we have pine cones of all sizes and shapes nearly year round, except in summer and spring of course, and they normally get raked up and thrown away. What better use of a pine cone than to give it away for a project that will help to provide and meal for some of Gods creatures? When the birds are finished cleaning off the seed, the squirrels will come and steal the entire cone and shred the meat off the "leaves", and I will try to find one of these so you can show the children what a squirrel does to eat a pine cone. A learning experience indeed, so many people don't know that a pine cone will actually become food for many species, as well as help propegate the speciaes of tree it fell from. The pine cone will eventually get buried if the animals don't eat them, and a few years later a sapling will sprout. This project can be an ongoing teaching lesson for children to learn the cycles of life. They are free, yes, but I cannot afford to pay the shipping. I will use UPS Ground, which allows a bigger box for the price compared to the post office. If you need a specific number for a class, let me know and I will try to make them all the same size so there won't be any misgivings about who got the better pine cone. You know how kids can be...;o)

Also, these make great Christmas ornaments for the kids to take home to their parents. A little glitter, a few beads and some glue will turn a dull pine cone into a fabulous keepsake ornament!
